The Perelman PAC

New York, NY

"Through careful calibration and subtle gradients, light brings the marble façade to life, hinting at the inner workings of the theater activity within."

The Perelman PAC is cloaked in a delicate veil of translucent, veined marble sandwiched between panes of glass. Its lightly etched outer surface diffuses the shifting light of the city, allowing the building to interact with its surroundings. After dark, custom-designed chandeliers illuminate the interior from behind, transforming the stark white cube into a softly glowing lantern that radiates warmth and presence. Many concepts were explored and set aside before arriving at a solution both technically daring and visually refined. Standard LED components were reimagined as elegant assemblies, bridging the industrial precision of a backstage’s inner workings with the glamour and expectation of the theater experience. Each fixture is composed of V-shaped LED bars in polished frames, with every individual strip carefully calibrated for angle, optic, and output. This exacting precision ensures the marble is illuminated in a soft gradient of projected light. The warm color temperature complements the marble’s amber undertones and the translucency offers glimpses of the activity within.
