"Illuminating motion, mechanics, and discovery—light becomes a catalyst for MIT’s culture of experimentation."
The exhibition lighting for the MIT Museum reinforces the Institute’s legacy of innovation, experimentation, and technological leadership, creating an immersive, forward-looking experience as visitors move through a sequence of distinct gallery spaces. Carefully composed illumination animates the kinetic sculptures, casting dynamic, contrasting shadows across exhibition backdrops. The raw mechanics of each piece are revealed through subtle underlighting, reflected in the exhibit’s base materials to celebrate process, movement, and making. Throughout the galleries, interactive elements invite engagement, with light acting as a visual language—signaling tone, rhythm, and shifts in perspective across multiple voices of scientific expertise.
